Everyone in Cambridge has their places. Although as Cantabrigians we open ourselves to all of Cambridge, there are locations for whatever reasons, be it proximity or the people, that we consider part of the Cambridge we know and frequent. Below are samples of my Cambridge. Take a look at these places. They might be a part of what you consider your Cambridge.

Nightlife: Middlesex Bar/Restaurant There is a nightlife in Cambridge, you just have to find it. This bar/restaurant could be in New York, Paris, Milan, or Abijan, yet its right here in Central Square. |

Bookstore: Seven Stars Bookstore A local book store with lots of flare. At this book store anyone can walk in and have a conversation about everything from astrology to Obama. |

School: Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is being kept alive and expanded upon by the students and faculty of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School in Cambridge. |

Landmark: Harvard Square Harvard Square is the second most important square in America, after Time Square in New York City. Harvard Square was my first favorite place in Cambridge. When I first came to Cambridge 1968, I visited a friend who was attending Emerson College, we took the subway from Boston to Harvard Sq. and when we emerged from the subway station, I looked around and said to myself "this is where I'm suppose to be". |

Theatre: Central Square Theater The Central Square Theater is a dream come true. It is a dream theater that I helped sheppard to fruition. By this I mean, that MIT needed a little nudging to consider on MIT/community theater partnership. It is here that we hosted a January 2009 celebration of our Cambridge Pulitzer Prize winning author Junot Diaz. |

Dinning: Central Kitchen If my partner is away traveling on business, I always like to have dinner at this Central Square Restaurant. The hospitality is exceptional. The staff treat you like a family member and the Chicken Fricse and the New York Sirlion Steak are both excellent. The owner Gary Sharak is a strong supporter of Cambridge and of Central Square in particular. |

Lodging: Friendly Inn The Friendly Inn is one of the several established Bed and Breakfast Inns in Cambridge. The owner Hong Lui is an energetic supporter of Cambridge. |

Harvard Square: Musician In this photo, there is the man who plays a string instrument in Harvard Square. I have seen him here for many years. He has become a part of Harvard Square for me. |

Bookstore: Rodney's Bookstore Rodney's bookstore is a place to go on a Saturday when you have no plans and are interested in stumbling upon a random book. Being at Rodney's is an adventure by itself and the book and services they office is extensive. |

Landmark: Middle East Mural This mural is on the Brookline Street side of the Middle East Restaurant and Night Club. The restaurant is owned by a wonderful family. They have amazing food, and live music almost every night. |

Dinning: Asmara Restaurant Among the many ethnic restaurants we have in Cambridge, Asmara located in Central Square on Massachusetts Avenue, is one of the friendliest. This is an Eritrean restaurant with lots of spice and warmth. |

Landmark: City Hall Cambridge City Hall is surely one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It has a long history. I have also spent the last twenty years of my life in this building working to represent the people of Cambridge. I have so many great memories here. |

Landmark: Harvard Square This is the Out of Town News Stand. The structure of the stand used to be the head of the old Harvard Square T-Station. I remember when I first stepped out of MBTA stop and gazed at Harvard Square, I immediately fell in love with this city. The Out of Town News Stand represent my own history with this city. |

Business: Novartis This Swiss company moved its entire research division from Switzerland to Cambridge . It was first a tenant in the former Necco factory building, but later purchased that building and built a sizable nearby additional. The presence of Novartis in Cambridge is good for the city. |

Central Square: Dance Complex The Dance Complex is the crown jewel of Central Square because it is pulsating and vibrant and it also began the cultural renaissance of Central Square. I like to hear the sounds of African drumming which emanate from the building on Summer nights. |

City Look: Hanging Basket I have worked with the City Manager and the department of public works to improve Cambridge 's public plantings. These hanging baskets are a result of that effort. |

Food: Cafe Andala This is Cafe Andala. The name Andala means nightingale in Arabic. I have many friends here. All of the food served here is healthy and without preservatives. The atmosphere here is specially Cambridge. |

Landmark: Herbawi Square This Square beside First Baptist Church in Central Square is named after a very special man who has helped to create real community in Central Square. He is somebody without whom we would not have the special Cambridge spirit that we have today. |

Kendall Square: Building This is a luxury building in Kendall Square where, due to inclusionary zoning, 15% of the dwelling units are affordable. I am so very pleased that working people in Cambridge have an opportunity to live in the very best accommodations. |

Kendall Square: Building Kendall Square is becoming a neighborhood. These are luxury buildings that were built to be condominiums but now the developer would like to make them rental units instead. The City Council has voted to contact the developer and say that stability is better served by condominium units than rental units. |

Kendall Square: Park Kendall Square is becoming a more people friendly hub. I have been working for nearly twenty years to get Kendall Square to be a place of excitement and interest. In this Council term I have seen real progress here. |

Business: Genzyme Genzyme is one of the few profitable biotech companies in Massachusetts. It has a signature LEED certified headquarters in Kendall Square. |

Landmark: Building This is a fifteen million dollar building that was given to the city for free as part of a variance negotiation. The city and Cambridge citizens have yet to decide how the building will be used to benefit the people of Cambridge. I am hopeful that the city will study closely successful and interesting projects like the Brewery in Jamaica Plain as we plan the future use of this site. |

Kendall Square: Public Safety Facility This is our new Public Safety Facility in Kendall Square, named after the city manager Robert W. Healy. The city manager has always taken a very active interest in the public safety of Cambridge citizens. |
